Yesterday, multiplatinum rock band The Killers dropped a surprise new single, and it’s certainly no throwaway. Addressing everything from our sickening gun culture to our cruelty to immigrants, the gospel-tinged track is the most political song the band has wrote, and for the music video, they went with a director who is never afraid to be divisive: Spike Lee.
Focusing mostly on the plight of immigrants seeking refuge in our country, the video contains beautiful and moving footage of the people so many in our government have tried to demonize. Shots juxtapose the horrible conditions of the refugee camps those seeking asylum are living in, with footage of the love and community these people share. It’s powerful and worth your time to watch.
