While eating at an Indian restaurant, I found my eyes constantly going to a TV running a stream of Bollywood music videos. They were crazy! Bright, colorful, with cinematic cinematography and of course their unique dancing style.
But then there was “Aala Re Aala”. I wasn’t sure what I was watching. The person singing looked like Sacha Baron Cohen in a Bollywood-style character, with a humorous twist on their normal dancing that recalled the mega-hit “Gangnam Style” in it’s ridiculous audacity. What I have since learned is that the video is one of three released for the film SIMMBA, starring Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan, Sonu Sood along with Siddharth Jadhav and Ashutosh Rana.
The plot, according to Wikipedia: Simmba is an orphan from Shivgadh from where our beloved Singham was born and raised. Contrary to the philosophies of Singham, Simmba believes that a Corrupt Officer’s life is an ideal life which inspires him to become one. While Simmba enjoys all the perks of being an immoral and unethical Police Officer, a twist in the tale transforms him and forces him to choose the righteous path.
So a film about a joyously corrupt police officer with music and dance numbers like in the video above? I’ve never been more interested in watching a Bollywood film! Check it out for yourselves.
