Tonight’s Sunshine have a lot going for them. Musically, the group began as a YouTube-based solo project of ukulele covers (of songs usually not played on the ukulele) before developing into a full-fledged band, melding together rock, punk, metal, alternative, Latin and even country into a blend of their own.
Formed in 2018, the band has also made it their mission to promote and bring music to the Tribal nations and underserved communities across the Southwest. They have teamed with a number of non-profits in order to support and celebrate native and BIPOC communities. On top of all of these great assets, the band also clearly has a good sense of humor, as one can grasp from their video for “W.Y.R. (Would You Rather)”.
Set-up as a BTS look and interview with the band, things take a turn when the group’s lead singer is seemingly possessed by an evil force, turning the video into a hand-held horror comedy, as the singer stalks her bandmates in the darkness of their home. Despite the dark-toned video, the track is a bouncy, slightly Gothy pop rock number featuring stunning, soulful vocals with metal guitar solos that builds to a crisp, visceral conclusion.
