The new single from the artist’s forthcoming sophomore album Another Year In The Minors deals with “the aftermath of a defense mechanism malfunction”, and in the artist’s own words;
“This was a really hard song to write. Structurally, it came together very quickly. But once I read it back, it became clear that this was going to be a particularly exposing three minutes. Thankfully, the touched upon themes are unmistakably human, so at the very least I’ve confirmed that I am indeed only human.”
And though lyrics such as “We’ve reached the point where you’ll admit You don’t know who you’re living with” reveal fear and anxiety that many of us have felt about a relationship, in the comedic video for the track, that fear of being found out is translated in a clever way. Focusing on a performer struggling to win over a small audience through magic tricks and barely holding himself together, the lyrics are delivered by the man’s puppet monkey sidekick, while a number of his tricks seem to backfire.
And though the melodies retain the melancholy, the visuals temper them in an endearing way. Watch the video above, and stream the new Pigeon Club single here.
