Indie rock duo (and couple) The Cle Elum are both long-time music industry veterans, and have announced their new album It’s Ok If it Falls Apart is coming out August 16th. With assists from Matthew Caws (Nada Surf) and Josh Caterer (Smoking Popes) on the new album, an excellent punk and power-pop inspired songwriting throughout, the band comprised of Sarah Sargent Pepper and Ian Lee are giving music lovers plenty to be excited for.
With both Lee and Pepper skilled behind the drum kit, it’s no wonder that their latest single, “Handclaps & Tambourines”, pays tribute drummers everywhere with a catchy, toe-tapping simplicity. About the song, the group has said:
“Our single, ‘Handclaps And Tambourines’ is us taking a shot at songs like ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog,’ ‘Lust For Life,’ ‘My Sharona,’ and artists like Gary Glitter, Joan Jett and T-Rex,” says singer and guitarist Ian Lee, “Aren’t we all sick of overly sensitive lyrics about your feelings? Who needs a lead singer anyways? We had the idea for the title and the chorus floating around for a while – ‘I don’t care what the words mean, all I need are some handclaps and tambourines…’ Drum machines are gonna kill us if we don’t start playing “Handclaps And Tambourines” right now.”
And with this new single, we are thrilled to be premiering the song’s music video! A mix of stylized performance and 2D, retro animation, the visual perfectly captures the fun, throwback vibe of the song. The pastel color palette enhances the nostalgic look. With the video by Joshua Parrett, and shot by Callie Sioux with photos by Sandling Gaither, it will certainly get you hyped for the rest of the album!
