MYAH – The Lobby Music Video Review

Mariah Morgenstern, aka MYAH, knows a thing or two about Hollywood. Along with being a musician, she’s also a director, editor, producer, and CEO of New Royalty Films. So it’s appropriate that she incorporates some choice film parodies in the video for her single “the lobby”.

The track is a savvy, alt-pop number that moves from somber, moody balladry to upbeat, guitar-driven indie rock while delivery MYAH‘s poignant thoughts on fame, love and heartbreak. And as the emotions change, so do the films she parodies. Beginning with her take on The Grand Budapest Hotel, with some dialogue-interludes, things only get weirder. MYAH becomes a potential victim in a take on SCREAM, only to be rescued by a spoof of SPIDER-MAN. As the references bleed together, lyrics like “And I’m out, cause I hate this town. Got my suitcase for when I touch down” start to pop, as the phoniness of the Hollywood dream highlight the faults of her ex-lover.
