Though she hails from France, pop-rock artist Laure Briard received inspiration for her latest single “The Smell of Your Hair” from California, specifically a trip to Joshua Tree. Per Briard, “The song recounts a heartbreaking encounter with a lonesome cowboy, where fleeting passion under the Californian sun is lulled by the sound of the wind and the song of birds.” The result is a breezy, 60’s-style pop tune with orchestral touches that daintily frolics along a sunny beat.
While there’s no specific desert imagery or cowboys, the music video of the track does conjure feels of California and the 60’s psychedelic culture that remains a part of Joshua Tree to this day. From the colorful, vintage outfits the band wears, to the panning fisheye lenses and warm colored screen filters, the video conjures a classic era as the band performs in a studio. If not for the use of technology (shots of watching the band perform on a digital monitor), you might think you were watching a hi-res version of a classic video.
