If you frequented the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica over the last few years, you may have seen singer/songwriter, Chelsea Williams, busking in that area – in fact, it’s how she got her career started. She used to perform on the Promenade for five hours per day, four days per week, and it helped her make a living – something she swore she’d do after growing up watching her single mom struggle while raising two daughters. Her consistency and persistence helped her land two record deals, and a commercial songwriting gig!
Her second album, Beautiful & Strange, was just recently released, and it combines her talent with a variety of her musical influences shining through.
“If I had to define my style, it would be Americana with a bit of modern pop, topped off by a healthy dose of reckless abandon,” Williams says. “I never want to confine myself creatively, and I apply these categories very loosely.”
Chelsea delivered a music video for the first single off of the album, “Wasted.” The song itself is catchy, and is put to a video with lots of eye catching imagery. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to know where Chelsea got both her dress and buffalo necklace for the video – but besides her agreeable fashion, the video also tells a story to accompany the theme of the song, and I enjoy how she is both present singing as well as part of the visual story being told.
Beautiful & Strange is out in full now, and you can check it out on Spotify below, as well as catching the music video for “Wasted” above:
