Indie rockers Portugal. The Man have long been spokespeople for the rights for Indigenous peoples, and last Monday, in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the group released their first new original song since their 2017 album Woodstock, and they’ve brought along their friend “Weird Al” Yankovic and hip-hop artist The Last Artful Dodgr for the powerful new song.
With the new song, the group also created a fitting visual to accompany the track. Featuring the band performing by a fire in their yard, “Weird Al” performing in his house, a slew of indigenous people joining the chorus, and tasteful animated elements, the video gives recognition to the many indigenous people who remain an underrepresented group in society today, while also adding an artistic element to the anthem.
