I first heard about Hobo Johnson while at the KROQ Music Meeting from the booker at The Troubadour, who was excited that he was going to be playing the venue in the near future. Since then, the buzz has only grown around this underground alt/rap/punk star.
Real name Frank Lopes Jr., Hobo Johnson spent time homeless in his teens, after being kicked out of his house. Since then, he’s recorded his first album, The Rise of Hobo Johnson, and recently release the first single from his next album The Fall of Hobo Johnson, “Typical Story”, along with a surreal, slightly demented music video that perfectly captures the song’s anarchic vibe.
Utilizing a ton of hard-partying extras, some trippy VFX, and a collection of fun, crazy cinematography, it’s certainly eye-catching and a strong sign Johnson is bound to keep rising. Check it out above, and listen to the track below.
