Santa Monica based duo, Only Bricks, smashes the glass ceiling with the music video for their single, “Big Girl Shoes.” The tune itself is catchy, but the video tells a fun story and has a lot of eye catching fashion to boot (I need to know where that rainbow dress is from)!
Only Bricks consists of married couple Anne DiGiovanni (vocals) and Joseph Lewczak (guitar). They’ve been making fun and funky pop music together since early 2018 and have received acclaim from Celebmix, Cheers to the Vikings, Music Connection, Wolf in Suit, Atwood Magazine, All Access, and more.
The idea for this single was sparked by a comment made to Anne by a male colleague. He told her to wear her “big girl shoes” in a patronizing tone. The song is based on a metaphor for the “double bind of needing to look feminine but not sexy, an added weight women carry at work on top of their normal job responsibilities.” The band has taken that comment and run with it to create this catchy tune and entertaining music video. I can attest that walking a mile in heels is not easy. Enjoy the ride!
